ImageMagick with support for the Clip Parameter for EPS image formats

Please, fill in the below fields to enable the processing of your idea.

Who would benefit?

Anyone who uses the DAM

What impact would it make?

Remove the need to save images in multiple formats whilst gaining a sharper looking image on output

How should it work?

With EPS images carrying a clipping path, the backgound is made transparent up to the clipping path itself rather than the looking for a set colour, using the -clip parameter within ImageMagick.

Why is it needed?

With a product image where the product itself is Non-White, the white background is removed by ImageMagick, leaving a transparent background, though not always sharp and clean.

With a white coloured product having a white background, with ImageMagick removing the white background, areas of the white product may also be removed at the same time, meaning areas of the product are also transparent.

This will be required as a part of the image transformation process when moving to a web-friendly format from a print-friendly format. In our case, the web-friendly formats are essential and this automation underpins that process of having one file which can be used for a variety of outputs.

Additional feedback, background or context:

Marketing departments generally use EPS image formats for printed literature, with then duplicate images filed for the like of e-Commerce sites. Having only EPS images means a vast reduction on the number of images to be managed and stored.
