For fields of the type String and Local String it's currently possible to add a Regular Expression to the field to control i.e. how many characters that can be entered. Here is an example setting up a RegExp so you can enter at max 55 characters in the field:

This is something that needs to be setup in Control Center for the fields that should have this logic. You can read about how to set this up in the knowledge base on the community in the section about Fieldtype Settings. It's pretty technical but your partner should be able to help out with this.
I know that we have some room for improvement when it comes to how we present the message to the user. Currently its not possible to control the message that is given.
